After years of date nights in, my husband and I have perfected the best, better than a steakhouse, At Home Steak Dinner. Everything from the menu to the ingredients to the order of dish prep is nailed down and I’m so excited to spill every detail to you so you can have the most delicious, special tasting homemade dinner whenever you want! Plus, it’s fun and much much cheaper. Dare I say it’s also better than any steak dinner I’ve had at a restaurant?
I actually find steak nights to be one of the easier dinners we make at home. They require minimal, real food ingredients and even though there are typically multiple recipes, dinner is on the table within the hour.
Some recipes are linked throughout this blog posts and the newer recipes can be found below at the bottom!

The Sauces
If you’re making chimichurri or are a ranch obsessed Midwesterner like my husband and I, these sauces can be made first or even ahead of time to save some time.
If you’re making a pan sauce, this will be the last piece to the puzzle as it can’t be made until the steak is finished, of course. Keep reading for details on that recipe!
The Potatoes
Next in line is the potato dish they they will take the longest to make. My husband and I take potatoes very seriously in our household, so you can trust us with this recipes. We also make one of the following:
The Caramelized Onions
After potatoes comes caramelized onions. These are totally optional but let me tell you, once I learned to make caramelized onions I cannot stop. I LOVE them and didn’t realize they were so easy. They add so much to steak dinners whether they are on top of the steak or mixed into butter (which ooooooooh my gosh).

The Green Beans
We have been making our green beans with truffle salt and crispy garlic for years and it is truly our favorite way to make them. I have often been known for saying they’re my favorite part of the meal, which says everything you need to know.
One of the game changers for the green beans is our beloved truffle salt. My husband puts this stuff on EVERYTHING and I absolutely cannot go without it on steak nights. Click here for our favorite and you can use my code “KITCHANDFIX” for a discount!

The Steak
My husband is the one to typically prepare the steak, but don’t be intimidated because I have cooked it myself as well using his method and it’s been just as good! I truly believe an at home steak dinner is one of the easiest dinners to make as it’s comprised of minimal ingredients and doesn’t take too much time!
There are obviously tons of ways to cook steak and lots of methods that people swear by, but I wanted to write out what works for us.
Tips & Tricks from Matt:
- Take the steak out of the fridge in advance to bring it to room temperature.
- Getting a high quality meat thermometer has been so helpful. He cooks ours to be medium rare which is at 130 degrees F. You can absolutely have a perfect steak without a thermometer though, as we just added one to our kitchen. If you’re looking to add one as well, click here for the one we love!
- Truffle salt and cracked black pepper massaged it into both sides of the steak.
- Cook the steak on a hot grill pan with avocado oil.
- Be sure to only flip the steak once.
- The steak is always the last thing we make (aside from the pan sauce) as it’s the quickest and is best right away.
- Filet is his favorite cut! We have great luck at Whole Foods.
The Pan Sauce
This is a new addition to our steak nights and it has quickly become a staple. It’s so fun to make quickly in the pan after the steak is done and it makes me feel like a chef tossing ingredients together to form something so delicious.
Definitely give it a try as it’s easy to make and you likely have all of the ingredients in your kitchen already! I did, and that’s how this recipe came to life!

A NOTE ON CALORIE COUNT, NUTRITIONAL INFO AND SERVING SIZES
Due to my past experiences, I do not include most of the above information within my recipes as it is unsafe for me to do so personally. While I try to share a rough estimate when it comes to the serving size, please note that it is very subjective as we all have different hunger levels both from person to person and even from meal to meal.
If any of the above information is important to you, I understand! We are all different and have various goals and needs. If you’d like, you are welcome to calculate the information needed based on the ingredients you use when making one of my recipes.
I hope you understand! This comes from a place of love and protection both for myself and others like me. If you ever have any questions, send me an Instagram message for the quickest response time! Thank you for being here!
