Greek Chicken Burgers (GF, DF, Paleo, Whole30)

April 21, 2023 by kaylaskitchandfix 4 Comments

These easy and healthy Greek Chicken Burgers are Whole30 and paleo compliant while bursting with delicious flavor. They are paired perfectly with homemade tzatziki (can be made to be dairy free as well!) and can be served in whatever bun you so choose (depending on your dietary needs, of course).

Greek Chicken Burgers

I absolutely love Mediterranean flavors and foods and I also love burgers. I find so much joy in combining the two while also using ingredients that can fit into my dietary needs and preferences.

Whether you opt to cook these on the grill or on a stove, these burgers are sure to be loved by everyone. The flavors are perfect for warmer weather and are super good for you while being easy to whip up.

Homemade Tzatziki

I always opt to make my own tzatziki because it is so fresh and delicious without taking up much of your time. It’s absolutely worth the extra five minutes of effort! Plus, I save the cucumber juice and drink it for health benefits, but it can also be reserved for a cocktail or mocktail, like my Sparkling Cucumber Basil Mocktail!

You can make the tzatziki to be traditional with high quality Greek yogurt or you can use compliant dairy free yogurt to make it Whole30/Plant-Based Whole30, paleo and dairy free compliant. Cocojune (plain flavor) is my favorite yogurt to use in this instance!

TIPS & TRICKS

  • When it comes to burger recipes, often times people opt to add in fillers to keep the burgers from falling apart. To keep things as simple and as nutritious as possible here, we are forgoing any fillers and I promise these still work just perfectly!
  • I learned a trick from The Primal Gourmet that works every time. While being sure to bring the meat to room temperature and making sure not to over mix the burgers prior to cooking, you also want to be sure to rid the meat of any air pockets. To do this, you will take your rolled burger in one hand and with light force, toss it into the other hand as you would with a baseball. This process also helps to start to shape the meat into more of a burger vs. a ball.

A NOTE ON CALORIE COUNT, NUTRITIONAL INFO AND SERVING SIZES

Due to my past experiences, I do not include most of the above information within my recipes as it is unsafe for me to do so personally. While I try to share a rough estimate when it comes to the serving size, please note that it is very subjective as we all have different hunger levels both from person to person and even from meal to meal.

If any of the above information is important to you, I understand! We are all different and have various goals and needs. If you’d like, you are welcome to calculate the information needed based on the ingredients you use when making one of my recipes.

I hope you understand! This comes from a place of love and protection both for myself and others like me. If you ever have any questions, send me an Instagram message for the quickest response time! Thank you for being here!

Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 15 minutes mins
Total Time 25 minutes mins
Course: Dinner, Lunch, Main Course
Cuisine: Mediterranean
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

Chicken Burgers
  • 2 lbs ground chicken
  • ½ red onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
Burger Fixings (Optional)
  • lettuce
  • cucumber slices
  • tomato
  • buns or lettuce wraps
  • feta
  • tzatziki (homemade recipe on my blog!)
  • fresh dill

Method

  1. If you can, allow the ground chicken to come to room temperature (about 45 minutes).
  2. Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Using your hands, gently fold in all of the ingredients until distributed. Be sure not to over mix here to avoid your burgers falling apart.
  3. Separate the chicken mixture into 6-8 equal parts, then, one by one, roll into a ball. Once you have 6-8 balls formed, toss each ball into one hand with light force to rid of any air pockets (kind of like tossing a baseball into a mitt). This will also help to flatten the shape into a burger vs. a ball.
  4. You can choose to cook the burgers on the grill or on the stove. I recommend using the stove if you are new to grilling or on the grill with foil, but either will work. No matter what you choose, have avocado oil or olive oil ready to avoid any sticking.
  5. Once cooked through, assemble the burgers with your favorite burger fixings, such as: lettuce wraps or buns, red onion, cucumber, tomato, fresh dill and of course, homemade tzatziki.
Whole30 & Dairy Free Tzatziki

Total Time 5 minutes mins
Servings: 1 cup
Course: Dip, Sauce
Cuisine: Mediterranean
Ingredients Equipment Method

Ingredients

  • 1 cup compliant coconut yogurt (can use Greek yogurt if not Whole30/paleo/dairy free)
  • 1 large cucumber, grated and strained of moisture
  • 2 small cloves garlic, minced
  • squeeze of fresh lemon (~¼-½ of a lemon)
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Equipment

  • Cheese Grater

Method

  1. Grate and rid cucumber of any moisture. I use a cheese grater and grate the cucumber into a nut milk/mesh bag then wring out the moisture. You can also grate it onto a towel, sprinkle with salt (this brings the moisture to the top) and wring out that way. Use what you have!
  2. Combine all of the sauce ingredients and mix together. Serve cold!

Everything you see on my blog & social media will ALWAYS be gluten free, so you never have to worry about that! 🙂 The brand of the bun in the images is O’Doughs! I hope to hear how you like the burgers, Brenda!
