Sugar Free Simple Syrup

April 24, 2021 by kaylaskitchandfix Leave a Comment

A super easy and healthy way to keep the sugar in your drinks low is by whipping up this Sugar Free Simple Syrup! It takes just a few minutes and only uses two ingredients. So SIMPLE!

Sugar Free Simple Syrup

Sugar Free Simple Syrup

This recipe is so easy that you’ll be wondering why you didn’t start making your own simple syrup ages ago! All you do is dissolve equal parts sugar into equal parts water on the stove and allow to cool. That is literally it!

I use Lakanto Classic Monkfruit Sweetener 1:1 Sugar Replacement for this recipe (and many others). I usually grab mine at Whole Foods, but you can also find it online!

Before you make…

I want to tell you one thing to be aware of. Since there are no gums or additives in this recipe, when this cools in the fridge, it will crystallize. It’s normal! Because of this, I like to make closer to the exact amount I’ll be needing so there isn’t any leftover. When I do happen to make a little extra, all I have to do to prepare it for use again is heat it up! You can do so on the stove or in the microwave.

I have read that you can add xantham gum to keep it from crystallizing, but I like to avoid added gums where possible personally, so I keep it simple for my syrup! (See what I did there?)

Where/How to Use it

I first made this Simple Syrup for these Sparkling Cucumber Gimlets (click here!), but there are endless ways to use this syrup! It is great for muddling fruit for cocktails or adding a touch of sweetness to any drink, even coffee!

Total Time 5 minutes mins
Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

  • equal parts water
  • equal parts sugar free sugar replacement (I use Lakanto, can sub real sugar as well)

Method

  1. Combine water and "sugar" in a pot on the stove over medium heat. I typically use anywhere from ¼ cup of each (for a few drinks) to 1 cup+ each (for more drinks). It depends on how much you'll need!
  2. Bring to a slight simmer and keep an eye on the mixture, mixing lightly as it dissolves.
  3. Once it is clear and completely dissolved, your simple syrup is done!
  4. Pour the syrup into a resealable glass container and let cool before using it for your drinks.

Notes

If there is extra, keep it sealed in the fridge. If it crystallizes as it cools, just reheat it until it’s completely liquid again and it’s good to go!
