These Protein Reese’s Eggs are just like the real thing but with better for you ingredients, lower sugar and added protein! I know there are countless recipes for Reese’s on the internet, but I’m confident mine will be your favorite. Reese’s have always been my favorite candy and so you can trust me on this one!
Protein Reese’s Eggs
I take my chocolate and peanut butter desserts very seriously because they are my absolute favorite! So when I tell you that these Reese’s taste so close to the original thing, I mean it. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying the actual candy of course, it’s fun to have an option to make at home using ingredients that are better for you and fit in with your dietary needs, which is exactly why I created the original copycat recipe in the first place! This version adds in protein powder to give an added boost while still tasting just as delicious!
What you’ll need (click the below ingredients to be taken to the product I use and recommend):
- Vanilla Protein Powder (be sure you like the taste of it and that it is sweet enough to sweeten the peanut butter filling!)
- Peanut Butter
- Almond Flour
- Vanilla Extract
- Salt
- Chocolate Chips (I either use these or these)
- Coconut Oil
DIETARY NOTES
This recipe is made with real ingredients and fits seamlessly into the following dietary needs when using the products/brands (or ones that are similar) listed in the recipe:
- gluten free
- grain free
- dairy free
- low sugar
- high protein
As always, be sure to read ingredient labels to ensure that the ingredients you are using meet your specific needs!
TIPS & TRICKS
In my opinion, the best part of Reese’s holiday shapes is the fact that the inside is a thick, delicious layer of peanut butter filling coated in a thin layer of chocolate. To achieve this, I like to keep the inside peanut butter filling as thick as possible. I also like to gently remove excess chocolate from the outside when dipping the eggs to get that thin outside coating that Reese’s have. It makes them taste more authentic!
You can form the eggs with your hands or use an egg mold, which is what I did for these and they worked great! Click here for the one I used!
When it comes to dipping the eggs in the chocolate, you’ll want to ensure the peanut butter filling is nice and frozen so that the peanut butter holds its shape when it meets the warm chocolate.

A NOTE ON CALORIE COUNT, NUTRITIONAL INFO AND SERVING SIZES
Due to my past experiences, I do not include most of the above information within my recipes as it is unsafe for me to do so personally. While I try to share a rough estimate when it comes to the serving size, please note that it is very subjective as we all have different hunger levels both from person to person and even from meal to meal.

Protein Reese’s Eggs
Ingredients
- 1 cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup vanilla protein powder
- ¼ cup almond flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch salt
- ¾ cup chocolate chips
- ½ tsp coconut oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together peanut butter, protein powder, almond flour, vanilla and salt until fully combined.
- To form the eggs, you can use a mold (which is what I did!) or use your hands to create 8 egg shapes. You'll want the peanut butter filling to be thick, but you can make more than 8 if you want them to be smaller. Place each "egg" onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Freeze the eggs for an hour and a half minimum to make sure they are really set in their shape.
- When the eggs have 5 more minutes to freeze, add the chocolate and coconut oil to a bowl and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- Dip the eggs in the chocolate, gently coating the full surface with a fork.
- Place each coated egg on a cooling rack over top of parchment paper or directly onto parchment paper to dry. You can spray the rack with avocado oil if you'd like to prevent sticking.
- Opt to cool the eggs in the fridge or freezer if you'd like. Keep cold until ready to serve and enjoy!

Can you replace almond flour with normal gluten-free flour?
kaylaskitchandfix
I have not tried that! I don’t think it would be the right texture.

Hi! Can I use regular flour in place of almond?
kaylaskitchandfix
Unfortunately I am not sure it would work the same, especially since they aren’t 1:1 conversions.

Is there a nut free flour alternative for the almond flour?
kaylaskitchandfix
I have not tested one at this time!

Absolutely loved these! I am going to make more tonight! I felt though the peanut butter was so rich when I made my version of an egg. I made more and made them thinner. So yummy, I don’t need to buy the ones from the store any more!!!!!

Glad you made them work for your preferences and that you love the recipe! 🙂
