Chili Ranch Loaded Sweet Potato Fries
Crispy oven roasted sweet potato fries topped with a small batch of paleo stove top chili and a drizzle of Homemade Ranch Dressing (click here for the recipe!) are all reasons you should not deprive your table of serving this meal. It may sound like an indulgent appetizer, but when paired with veggies, it’s actually a completely balanced dinner option!
Something I love about Whole30 is that it always pushes me to come up with new, fun recipes that keep things interesting. Some of my favorites from this round are my Crispy Buffalo Chicken and Asian Inspired Meatballs! It’s a really rewarding challenge to recreate meals that have been labeled as “bad” (which I don’t believe in, it’s all about balance!) and making them nutrient dense!
No discrimination here!
I’m not someone that writes off foods unless I’m allergic. That being said, carbs do not scare me. We need carbs in moderation, and potatoes of all types are a healthy part of a diet when eaten in moderation. I love both sweet potatoes and white potatoes, but there’s something about pairing spices with sweet potatoes that I absolutely love! As summer is coming to a close, I am so ready to cozy up and keep the comfort food recipes coming.

Loaded Chili Ranch Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients
Chili
- ½ lb ground beef
- 1 cup tomatoes, diced (canned)
- 2 tbsp ketchup/tomato paste
- ¼ tsp cumin
- ¼ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ white/yellow onion, diced
- ¼ 1/4 cup broth
- 2 tsp avocado oil
Sweet Potato Fries
- 2 large sweet potatoes
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Toppings
- homemade ranch
- green onions
- cilantro
- lime
- bacon
Instructions
Chili
- Sauté onions in avocado oil in the bottom of a medium pot.
- Once fragrant, add ground meat and break up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until completely browned.
- Add in all other ingredients and let simmer over medium/low heat for 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes. This will let the chili thicken!
Fries
- Slice potatoes into fries while leaving the skin on. The skin is high in fiber and super good for you!
- Soak fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove potato starch and get your fries crispy in result.
- Preheat oven to 375° and get a parchment lined baking sheet ready.
- Once soaked, drain and dry your fries then move to a dry bowl.
- Top with avocado oil and seasonings.
- Line the fries in a single layer on the sheet being sure none are overlapping.
- Cook for 20-25 minutes, then remove from oven and flip.
- Raise the oven temp to 425° and return the fries to the oven for 20 more minutes.
- If you want your fries even crispier after that, feel free to broil them for a few minutes, but be sure to keep an eye on them! I typically do mine for 3 minutes.

Really great way to enjoy something that you might think of as a “cheat” meal. All the flavors were there. You should most definitely let the potato fries soak for at least 30 mins. I got a little too impatient so they weren’t as crispy..

Nothing better than something that tastes decadent that is made with clean ingredients, right?! Yes, soaking the fries really helps! However, sweet potatoes don’t get as crispy as regular potatoes naturally. But they’re definitely just as yummy!
Brittney
Y’ALL – this recipe is absolutely amazing!!! The flavors blend so well and make for the perfect dish. As we were eating my fiancé said, “in no way do I feel like I am eating a healthy version of chili fries.” Talk about a fantastic comfort food. Make this ASAP! Don’t skip making the ranch 🤤
We soaked the potatoes for 40 mins and then we used our Air Fryer for the fries – about 30 mins for the perfect crunch.

Ah, this makes me so happy to hear, Brittney! I am so glad that you and your fiancé loved this dish. Creating comforting yet healthy meals is my favorite thing to do! Also love that you used your air fryer for the fries. Great idea!

I doubled the recipe and served it as a meal since it has the protein in it. We had leftovers, which I can’t wait to eat. My husband and I thought it was delicious. He stated as he ate the meal, “I can’t believe this is considered healthy!” I saved this one to my recipe keeper app and will definitely be making it again! Thanks Kayla

Nothing better than when the husband is shocked that what he’s eating is healthy, I love hearing that! I also love that you doubled the recipe to have leftovers, genius! Thank you so much for making, I hope you enjoy it as much each time! 🙂

If you are not a ranch fan, what would you recommend to sub for ranch? Thanks
kaylaskitchandfix
What type of sauces or condiments do you like, Marci? You can totally just leave out the ranch and top with some avocado slices, maybe an aioli or really anything you love! It’s totally up to you. 🙂
