This Vegan White Pizza Sauce is creamy with just the right amount of garlic and takes five minutes to make. With just four main ingredients and three spices, this easy and delicious sauce is about to be everyone’s new favorite, regardless of their dietary needs.
This recipe was created in partnership with Heinen’s
Vegan White Pizza Sauce
What’s amazing about this sauce is that it changes consistency as it cooks. The sauce will be poured onto the pizza, then, the tapioca flour/tapioca starch in the sauce will start to form a more solid, cheese-like topping in the oven. It is like magic and I promise you it is so delicious! My husband even ordered pizza the night I made this pizza sauce and opted to eat mine instead, which says a lot!
Topping Talk
Feel free to use whatever your favorite toppings are! Here are the ones I used along with some tips & tricks:
- Sliced Tomatoes & Fresh Basil
- Sliced Potatoes & Fresh Rosemary
- If using potato slices, you may want to crisp them in a skillet on the stove with oil prior to assembling them on your pizza since your crust may not require a baking time that is long enough to fully cook the potatoes.
- Buffalo Chickpeas & Micro Greens
- If using chickpeas with buffalo sauce, be sure to space out the chickpeas so they aren’t too heavy in the center as that can cause your crust to collapse and not cook in the center as well.
For the crust, use whatever pizza crust you like best that fits your dietary needs. For a vegan and gluten free flatbread, I used O’Doughs flatbreads that come in a pack of three. My other favorite gluten free crusts are Banza (vegan and gluten free) and Capello’s (paleo and gluten free).

Vegan White Pizza Sauce
Equipment
- Blender or Food Processor
Ingredients
Pizza Sauce
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp tapioca flour or tapioca starch
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- sprinkle of salt
Instructions
- Combine cashews and water in a bowl and allow to sit for 30 minutes or overnight. If you have a high powered blender, you may not need to let them soak for long and can even skip the soaking step.
- Combine all of the sauce ingredients, including the cashews and water, into a blender or food processor.
- Blend until completely smooth.
- Smooth the sauce over the crust of your choice and top your pizza with your favorite toppings.
- Cook your pizza according to your crust instructions then enjoy! Aim not to cook the sauce for longer than 25 minutes if you can avoid it to ensure it doesn’t over cook.
Holly
Hi
Can you replace the vinegar with lemon juice?
kaylaskitchandfix
Hi, Holly! I have not tried that substitution, so I cannot confirm or deny if it works. If you end up trying it, be sure to let me know!

Hi Holly, I have not tried this so I am not able to speak on that result!
