Whip up these easy Whole30 Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wings for the perfect better for you appetizer during the Super Bowl (or just whenever you’re craving wings)!

Whole30 Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wings

Whole30 Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wings

Football playoffs and Super Bowl Season always comes at the beginning of a New Year when I’m deep into working on my healthy yet mindful eating, so I love to find ways to enjoy food that I love without breaking my progress towards feeling my best. I’m also usually finishing up my first Whole30 round of the year and am working on the reintroduction phase. These chicken wings are not only Whole30 compliant, but they are also super easy and extra crispy.

Make it your own!

Love buffalo sauce and spice? Add more once they’re out of the oven! You can also pick your favorite sauce to make it as spicy or as mild as you like. The choice is up to you! I’m very spice sensitive, so I used mild buffalo sauce that is Whole30 compliant from The New Primal. It was the perfect amount of flavor for me!

Tips & Tricks

Be sure to keep an eye on the wings in the oven towards to end of their cook time to ensure they don’t burn. Every oven is a little different, so they may need more or less time! Just keep checking on them to make sure they turn out the way you want them.

If you end up with leftovers, reheat them by popping them in a conventional oven or air fryer or even back into your normal oven. This will help them get crispy all over again!

Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 40 minutes mins
Total Time 50 minutes mins
Servings: 30 wings
Course: Appetizer
Ingredients Equipment Method

Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs chicken wings (around 30 wings)
  • 2 tbsp tapioca starch or flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup ghee (sub olive oil or avocado oil for dairy free, can also sub butter)
  • ⅓ cup buffalo sauce (pick your favorite hot sauce, I like The New Primal)

Equipment

  • Wire Rack
  • Rimmed Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°.
  2. Place a piece of parchment paper on your counter and layer a towel over the top. Place your wings on the towel and pat them dry. The parchment paper will avoid getting any juices from the chicken onto your counter for an easier and safe cleanup.
  3. Place the wings in a large bowl and toss them in the tapioca starch/flour and seasonings until evenly coated.
  4. Cover a rimmed baking sheet with foil, the place a wire rack on top. This will help the wings get crispy and allow for an easier cleanup.
  5. If you want, spray the wire rack with a little cooking oil to prevent the wings from sticking. Space out the wings evenly on the wire rack and ensure that they are not touching
  6. Bake the wings in the middle rack of your oven for 30 minutes.
  7. Melt your ghee (or use olive/avocado oil to keep it dairy free) and mix with the buffalo/hot sauce in a bowl.
  8. Remove the wings from the oven and dip each one in the buffalo/hot sauce and ghee mixture. Cover completely and return each wing to the wire rack.
  9. Broil the wings on high (500°) for 5 minutes, keeping the oven door cracked and watching them carefully to ensure they don't burn.
  10. Remove the wings from the oven, flip over and broil for 5 more minutes, again with the door cracked and watching them closely.
  11. Add more sauce if you'd like and serve!

Just made these in the air fryer for my husband who has been requesting wings for WEEKS and I just didn’t want to put in the effort (lol). These were FAR easier than I was expecting. In the air fryer I did 400 for 22 minutes then 450 for 3 minutes each side to finish.

The ranch was great, too. My husband said it will make whole30 so much easier for him 🥹

I’m so happy to hear this!! My ranch was the reason I was able to convince my husband to do the Whole30 for the first time, so I get it! Hope it went well 🙂
