My new favorite side dish would have to be these Mini Crispy Smashed Potatoes. They’re Whole30 and paleo friendly while also dairy free and vegan compliant. They pair perfectly with chicken or steak and your favorite veggies and make for a great appetizer as well.
Mini Crispy Smashed Potatoes
When I made these for the first time, my fiancé quite literally got off of his work call to tell me how good they were and that he couldn’t believe they were Whole30.
That’s the thing about the Whole30 program that I think a lot of people get mixed up. Just because you are eliminating certain foods from your diet, it doesn’t mean you aren’t able to eat delicious meals! I find it such a fun challenge to recreate my favorite recipes and make them using Whole30 compliant ingredients and sharing them with the world.

Mini Crispy Smashed Potatoes
Ingredients
Smashed Potatoes
- 1 bag mini potatoes (I used 16 oz multicolored peewee potatoes, from Whole Foods)
- 1 tbsp avocado oil or olive oil
- 1 tbsp ghee (can sub avocado oil or olive oil for dairy free)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 ¼ tsp tsp salt
- chives, parsley & chopped bacon to garnish (optional)
Garlic & Chive Aioli (optional)
- ⅓ cup avocado mayo (I use Primal Kitchen or Chosen Foods)
- squeeze lemon
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp fresh chives, chopped
- salt, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place cleaned potatoes into a large pot and cover with water. Add ¼ tsp of salt to the water and bring to medium heat.
- Bring the water to a boil and cook until fork tender, which should be about 20 minutes.
- Drain potatoes and allow to cool to the touch, about 5 minutes. Once cool enough, transfer potatoes to the sheet, spaced apart.
- Using a spatula or bottom of a glass/jar, smash the potatoes. The thinner, the crispier!
- Drizzle avocado oil and melted ghee (if using) over top of the potatoes and then add the seasonings, ensuring the potatoes are evenly covered.
- Cook for 25 minutes or until crispy. Allow to cool, then top with fresh herbs and chopped bacon, if you'd like. Drizzle with homemade ranch or dip into Garlic and Chive Aioli!
Larissa
BEST potato side dish!!! The potatoes are so crispy and the recipe was so easy to follow! That aioli is SO good! I didn’t have chives so I used parsley instead and it was delish…..also reheated these in the airfryer and it was PERFECT!

Thank you so much for making and commenting, Larissa! 🙂 I love that you loved these and also that you subbed in the herbs that you had on hand! Heating leftovers in the airfryer is a game changer, I love doing that too!! Thanks again!

This recipe is soooo good!! Not just a side dish either, I want to make these and use them for my favorite Dips (instead of chips) this Football season!!
kaylaskitchandfix
Ahhh yes, the perfect app for any gathering! I’ll definitely be making this during football season too. 🙂 Thank you, Ashlyn!!

I would like to use an air fryer instead of an oven. how should I adjust the cook time and temp?
kaylaskitchandfix
Hi Jax, I actually don’t have an air fryer! I’m sure you could Google the oven to air fryer temp and time conversions though? Let me know if you give that a try!
